An Awesome Start to the 2009-2010 Year

This year has started out amazing.  This is the most efficient start of the dance year we have had in several years.  Thank You to all of the amazing parents and grandparents for being so supportive and easy to work with, you have made this a sensational start.  We are also excited to have many of the Alumni of the studio that have brought their children to take dance this year.   Dance Upstairs was originally opened in 1977 and has been run by the Shover Family ever since.  We are excited to be continuing the tradition this year with each of you.

Hip-Hop Workshop on September 10th

We will be hosting a Hip-Hop Workshop on Thursday September 10th at the Elkin Studio with Dalton Anderson from Charleston, SC.  Dalton is the reigning Americas Mister Dance 2010 and is a member of the Beat Boys of Charleston.  He has some of the most innovative and dynamic Hip-Hop moves you will see on the East Coast and he will be here with us at Dance Upstairs on his way to Virginia.  He came and taught at our Diamond Company Intensive on August 15th and everyone in every age group loved him.  The class will only be $5.00 per dancer and you can bring a friend, even if they have not taken any dance.  The Petite/Junior Class for 1st-5th grade will be from 6:00-7:00 and the Senior Class for 6th Grade & Up will be from 7:00-8:30.  We look forward to seeing you and your friend on September 10th for an awesome class with Dalton.

Renovations to the Lobby

We are very excited about our renovations to the lobby.  We will have a Hollywood Theme emerging to add some excitement.  The renovations will also be adding new picture boards, more seating, and we are sure you will not miss our new studio history and information boards.  We do ask that you help us keep our new lobby clean by not leaving trash and drink bottles out, please throw them away, there is trash can by the door.

Tuition Payments

We ask that you please use your payment booklets and write your childs name on the front of the envelope in the space provided.  There is a Payment Box on the Shelf next to the office for Tuition.  Reminder: Tuition is due by the 15th of the month, after the 15th of a late fee of $10.00 will be applied to your account.  If paying by cash, we will provide a receipt the following week, it will be on the bulletin board next to the office with your childs name.  If you need change, please mark that on the envelope and your envelope will be on the board the following week with your change and receipt.   Exact change or a check for the correct amount is very appreciated.  Your tuition amount should be written on the front of your payment booklet.  If you have an account question please e-mail us and we will be happy to help.

In the Spotlight

The September Spotlight is on Mrs. Michelle.  She has been teaching at Dance Upstairs for seven years.  Michelle grew up at Dance Upstairs and went on to dance in college at Appalachian State University.  In 2006 she was named Americas Childrens Dance Educator of the Year and has since taught workshops for other teachers on Pre-School and Early Dance Education.  Michelle has judged dance competitions across the Southeast and is not only a nationally certified member of Americas Dance Council, but has served on the National Board of Directors as the Director of the 2008 Americas Mister & Miss Dance National Titles Scholarship Competition. Michelle has a true gift with younger dancers and is loved by all of her students.  Her choreography is innovative and captures the true essence of what dance is about for younger students.   Mrs. Michelle teaches on Monday Night in Elkin and on Thursday Night in Yadkinville.  She is happily married to her husband Lee and is the proud mother of three boys: Tyler, Tanner, and Treven, if all of that is not enough she works at the Yadkin YMCA and is active her church.  We love having Mrs. Michelle as part of our Dance Upstairs Family.

You can have your next Party, Meeting, or Reception at Dance Upstairs.  We rent Room 4 out for all kinds of occasions.  We have a kitchen with a serving window, tables and chairs to accommodate all sizes of events.  Other rooms are also available for use when the schedule allows.  If you want more information on room rental e-mail us, we are happy to help you.
